Call for VE Day Stories and Items

PRESS RELEASE
Call for VE Day Stories and items
Stone Town Council is preparing to remember the sacrifices made by so many throughout World War II on VE Day 80th Anniversary on Thursday 8th of May.
As part of our celebrations, the Heritage Centre will be showcasing fascinating WWII artifacts from our local community and is hoping to be able to present interesting first-hand stories from Stone residents who experienced VE day back in 1945.
We are inviting the local community to come forward with their artifacts from World War II so that the Heritage Centre can create an interesting and educational exhibition for the VE 80 Day celebrations.
We also are encouraging the residents of Stone to share their VE Day stories and participate in recording them so their experiences can be shared and enjoyed for future generations at the Heritage Centre.
If you’ve got an item to show or a story to tell, please come forward so we can make the most of the celebrations, please email heritagecentre@stonetowncouncil.gov.uk or call the Heritage Centre on 01785 594767.
Councillor Jill Hood, Chairman of the Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, said: “ It is important to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in World War II. We hope to mark this historic occasion by capturing many wonderful stories for our community to enjoy for years to come. If you know anyone with a wartime story to tell or have anything that you think would be of interest to showcase at the exhibition, please get in touch.”
