Queen’s Green Canopy – Planting of a Tree in Crown Wharf on 2 June 2022
The Stone Town Mayor, Councillor John Powell, accompanied by Mayoress, Mrs Nancy Powell, planted a tree at the Amphitheatre at Crown Meadow as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and create a legacy for future generations to enjoy in honour of Queen’ Elizabeth’s outstanding Leadership of the Nation.
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Proclamation on 2 June 2022
The Town Crier, Councillor Jim Davies, announced a specially written Proclamation in Market Square heralding the lighting of the beacon later that day.
The Beacon was lit at St Michael and St Wulfad’s Church, one of the thousands being lit in the UK and the Commonwealth, and forming part of the official programme announced by Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee Weekend.
St George’s Day in Stone on 23 April 2022
Stone Town Council celebrated Saint George’s Day by bringing medieval knights into the town on Saturday 23rd April 2022.
The event began with a parade at 1:00 pm down the High Street to Market Square led by Saint George on horseback and children were invited to join in. Once in the Market Square, the Black Knights fought Saint George and his men in front of the assembled crowd.
There was an opportunity to experience wearing medieval armour and a children’s medieval fancy dress competition themed on knights, damsels and dragons, with a £25 prize for the best fancy dress.
In addition to the event there was also the usual town market at the upper end of the High Street.
