Stone Town Mayor
Councillor Mark Green
Biography
I was born in the railway town of Crewe in Cheshire. I attended Ludford Street Secondary Modern School, Crewe, until the age of sixteen when I secured employment at Rolls Royce Motors, serving a five year apprenticeship. After my apprenticeship I went on to become a machine tool fitter, then ending my career at Rolls Royce as an Inspector.
In my youth, at the age of twenty one, I was elected to Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, serving as a Borough Councillor for four years. At the time I was the youngest Councillor to have been elected on to the Council. I left the political arena at a very busy time when it was difficult working full time whilst doing my best for the voters of Crewe and coping with family life.
I have been married to my wife Kristan since 1970 and we have two grown up children.
We moved to Stone in 1984 after taking a decision to follow a change in direction. We went in to the licencing trade, running two pubs and a Bed and Breakfast, all in the town. We sold our last pub in 2005 and continued with our Bed and Breakfast business until 2013, when we both retired. I joined Stone Town Council in 2007 and became Town Mayor for the first time in 2008.
My wife joined me, becoming a Town Councillor in 2015 and we worked together for the people of Stone. Kristan became Town Mayor in 2018 and handed the chain of office to me once again in May 2019.
The Town Mayor is aware of the work that goes into organising events in the community and sends his very best wishes to everyone involved in them. He looks forward to the end of the coronavirus pandemic when occasions and achievements can once again be commemorated and celebrated in the traditional way.
